According to Thai traditional medicine, the human body is made up of four basic elements: earth, ...

To better understand Thai Healing Arts (Thai Traditional Medicine), it helps to understand the idea of the four elements behind it. Thai teachers always say that they want many people to learn this way of thinking.

First of all, I should say that Thai people do not believe that each atom in the universe literally has a piece of earth, a stream of water, a breeze, or a flame of fire. Rather, each element has properties of matter, such as organs, tissues, processes, and functions.

Solid matter can be said to have the properties of the earth's elements. The liquid substance is the water element. Movement is a property of the air element, and heat is a property of the fire element. Some basic guidelines regarding the four elements and the human body can be outlined as follows:

Earth (earth, earth) (Din)

Soil has the functions of digesting food, metamorphosing it, and nourishing the body.

It is thought that they represent 20 different organs, including hair, nails, teeth, skin, muscles, bones, joints, heart, liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys, stomach, large and small intestines. The basis of the development and continuation of human life. If the elements are insufficient, clinical symptoms such as loss of appetite, constipation, muscle weakness, urinary and fecal disorders, hearing loss, and olfactory disorders are seen, but if the elements are in excess, symptoms such as physical and local stiffness, coldness, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, and constipation are observed. I can see the symptoms.

Water (Naam)

Water, which represents the storage of substances in the body, is composed of 12 types of substances, including bile, saliva, water (body fluids), blood, sweat, urine, fat, and pus. Water is a concrete thing. These are a type of humoral tissue that is spread throughout the body and is an important source of substances in the human body. Clinically, when the body is deprived of water for a long period of time, dry mouth and polydipsia, secretion and excretion decrease, other substances lose stability, and various abnormal reactions appear. The water element is in the earth element and requires the wind element for movement.

Imbalances in the water element can lead to organ problems related to the water element, such as blood diseases, eye disorders, kidney and sexually transmitted diseases, bladder or urinary tract infections or stones, diabetes, and diseases that manifest in abnormal urine or other fluid excretion. may appear as.

Wind (Rom)

Wind is the energy that controls the movement of body activities and functions, such as upward wind, downward wind, abdominal wind, intestinal wind, blood circulation wind, wind that permeates throughout the body, and breathing (breathing). represents. It is an external manifestation of life activities. Wind represents and composes the brightness and circulation throughout the body. All motor functions in the human body are controlled by the wind, including the digestion and absorption of food, the excretion of urine and feces, breathing, sneezing, blinking, crying, laughing, making noises, and jumping.

Imbalances in the air element can manifest as symptoms such as pneumonia, cough, mucus congestion, tuberculosis, bronchitis, other respiratory infections, fainting, dizziness, and arthritis. The element of wind is considered the most important element in promoting mobility, strength, longevity and vitality.

Fire

Fire represents important thermal energy that warms the body. It consists of heat and life energy. Fire has the properties of burning, destroying, transforming, and creating and disseminating life energy. Fire is related to the other elements because it supports the flow of the air and water elements at the right temperature. Fire keeps the earth element warm and the body's organs in good health.

Imbalances in the fire element primarily manifest as diseases of the heart and circulatory system. This includes digestive, blood circulation, and lymphatic health issues.

According to the above concepts, the organs and functions of the human body can be classified into the following categories:

*For each person, there is one factor that is more dominant than the others. *Your dominant factor is basically determined by the month in which you were born. *This basic element of a person plays an important role in a person's characteristics, appearance, and health weaknesses.

The constant interaction of the four elements creates and maintains the processes of the human body. Therefore, it is very important to keep the four elements in balance throughout your life. Therefore, when the four elements are in balance, you will be healthy. In contrast, when an imbalance of these elements occurs, that is, when there is a deficiency, excess, or impairment in any of the four elements, a person becomes ill.

In our lives, the elements are constantly changing, so the balance can be disrupted or shifted due to health or disease. Children and the elderly are more susceptible to the disease than the average adult due to the delicate condition of their elements. In children, the four elements have not yet fully matured, and in older people they have been weakened by years of life. Gradually the elements become weaker and weaker, and eventually, when they are exhausted, death ensues.

The main purpose of Thai medicine is to promote health and longevity by maintaining the vitality and balance of the four elements. Thai massage and its theoretical concept of Sen Energy Lines and its practical explanation in the operation of Energy Lines (related to the four body elements) are one of the means to achieve this goal.

The secondary aim is of course the "treatment or treatment of disease" (e.g. with a Thai massage), but it is clear that prevention (the primary goal) often obviates the need for healing (the secondary goal).

Causes of disease

In the Thai system, the root cause of all diseases is an imbalance between the body and energy (prana). When the three essences are in balance, the human body subsequently enjoys health and well-being.

More specifically, we can say that disease is caused by a disturbance in the availability and free flow or free exchange of (vital) energy (prana). This is usually due to a physical or bodily problem (dysfunction). It is caused by an imbalance of the four elements.

According to traditional Thai medicine, blockage of this free-flowing energy can be caused by four factors that affect the four elements:

  1. Supernatural powers

  2. Power of nature

  3. The power of the universe

  4. The power of microorganisms

In more detail, the following aspects can be recognized:

1. The four elements themselves An imbalance of the four internal elements can be caused by a direct imbalance (environmental influence) of the four external elements.

2.Season. Heat and cold in different seasons can obviously affect human health.

3.Age At different times in our lives, people are more susceptible to illness due to the influence of various factors.

4.Geography As one's geographical location determines the weather and environment, it can play a role in influencing a person's health.

5. Time Astrologically, the sun, moon, and stars are constantly in motion, thereby affecting human life and health differently even during different times of the day.

6. Inappropriate behaviors that can cause illness include: * Inappropriate eating habits, overeating, stale food, unfamiliar food, or food that is not suitable for your dominant element * Sitting down , postural imbalances when standing, walking, and sleeping can lead to imbalances in body structure and unnecessary health deterioration *Exposure to extreme weather or polluted air *Food , water, or sleep *Delayed urination or defecation *Overwork, excessive exercise, or excessive sexual activity *Deep sadness or extreme elation *Extreme anger or lack of calm

7.Supernatural powers: Spirits of ancestors, powerful spirits of the forest, evil spirits, and punishment from heavenly spirits of people who do evil deeds

8. Kimijati (power of microorganisms) Equivalent to microorganisms (bacteria, viruses) or parasites. In the first place, the existence of bacteria maintains the order of the natural world.

Cells contain bacteria, and unnecessary elimination will reduce your immunity.
