Thai traditional midwifery treatment and care (Mo Tam Yae) is comprised of holistic health knowledge and wisdom passed down from Thai ancestors. One of the traditional practices related to postpartum is Yufai (postpartum care).
Traditional Thai postpartum practices, including heat therapy (Yu Fai), include the concept of "bringing back the heat." You will learn how to use herbal balls, steam treatment with herbs, and manage your physical condition using a salt pot, with an emphasis on restoring normal function in order to reduce and return the uterus to its normal size.
Herbs are essential for heat therapy, so the curriculum involves touching actual herbs and being surrounded by the smell of herbs. It also includes a lot of yoga (Thai yoga), but it's a relaxing course.
(Originally, after giving birth, one should take time to normalize the abdomen and improve immunity, and I think it is important to preserve this traditional knowledge and practice. In fact, the Thai government midwifery programs are well-established at the educational level and are being studied at many universities.)
